Dear Residents, As the summer approaches, the Parks and Recreation Department, once again is ready for another exciting season with activities, programs, & special events featured at the filled Town Beach and other recreational facilities around town. This winter, our staff reviewed last year’s programs, activities, and surveys to begin the process in which to better serve you and the many visitors to our recreational facilities. Through the winter our staff has been prepping the fields, attending seminars, training new staff, re-organizing returning staff, and working with recreation departments from around the state to bring to you the best in facilities, programs, and special events. Since last summer we have gone through surveys of programs, and have listened to many of your concerns to make this year’s programs safe and enjoyable for each and every one of you. What’s new this summer…… New tennis programs on the refurbished courts at Sprague Park New golf instruction by a PGA instructor Additional aquatics programs at the town pool And back by popular demand…… Camp at Narragansett with day trips, shows, and oodles of fun Summer basketball, soccer, and baseball camps Trips to McCoy Stadium Concerts at Gazebo Park 34th Annual Philharmonic on the Beach …..and much more!! Your support over the years have made my job a more memorable one each and every day. I can only hope to meet more of you at these events during the summer. The department continues to look for your input as we develop new programs, make improvements to our existing facilities, and community events. We understand your participation is essential to meeting the goals of the town and future planning for parks and recreation. Your continued support, as a volunteer, sponsor, or participant is greatly appreciated. Last year we sent out 2500 surveys to randomly selected residents for their opinions on various aspects of recreation, its programs, activities, and recreational sites. Those of you who returned those surveys, we thank you for your insight, constructive criticism, and compliments. For without those honest responses we fail as a town to continue to try and provide a high level of recreation in Narragansett. Through the various comments and suggestions we can achieve our goal of maintaining a fun, safe, and diverse recreational experience for you, your family, and the many visitors to Narragansett each year. Sincerely, Barry S. Fontaine Director |
