November 2007
Dear Residents:
With winter approaching, the Parks and Recreation Staff wishes to take
this opportunity to thank all the people participating and supporting our
programs throughout this past year. Our efforts to provide quality
programming were made possible through your suggestions, concerns and
positive reinforcement that shows the character of Narragansett.
This winter we look forward to providing some of the traditional programs
for our young people, adults and seniors. Bradford Trowt Basketball, adult
basketball leagues, indoor soccer, the Festival of Lights, volleyball,
along with the return of indoor golf and other special events in town at
our facilities, brings joy and notoriety to our town. We did continue to
provide these programs and more, each with the understanding that the Town
of Narragansett would always be well represented.
This past year we experienced some new programs:
Ultimate Frisbee
Kayaking
Flag Football League
Recreational Volleyball
Theater Program
Vintage Baseball Game
Each of the programs came from suggestions of our residents and
participants of other programs. The department addressed the concerns of
residents through a series of surveys concerning the beach, the summer
camp and tennis programs.
The town pool opened at the end of the summer and will remain open through
the month of September. It looks like a complete aquatic program will be
in place in 2008. Our summer camp once again provided the opportunity for
youngsters to participate in activities, trips and performances on the
Clarke Road property.
Our staff will continue to work throughout the winter to meet the needs of
the community while working towards our goals for the upcoming year. Keep
in mind, some information may not have been ready at the time of
publication of this brochure. However, this information is also updated
periodically on our web site, www.narragansettri.gov during the year.
I would like to thank all of our sponsors and their continued support this
past year. Local sponsors help provide the quality programming that are
the kind of recreational opportunities you are accustomed to and will
continue in the future. If you would like to sponsor, give us a call.
In closing, we would like to thank all of our staff members for their
time, energy and enthusiasm each and every day. Their efforts do not go
unnoticed as was evident this past January when the department was
acclaimed as the “Department of the Year” by the Rhode Island Recreation
and Park Association.
